Frequently Asked Questions
How do Changelings appear under the Imbued’s Second Sight and under observation Edges?
The Second Sight reveals Changelings as “wrong” or “off,” though it also suggests that they lurk behind some kind of haze, as if viewed through a distorted lens or through heat waves rising from a road. They can seem to be faint images superimposed over a normal-seeming person much like ghosts who possesses humans. Observation edges reveal more information about them...
Illuminate can show these creatures to radiate with a confounding, coruscating aura of oddly matched colours like a rainbow. The shades tend to be pale, not vibrant, and can look washed-out or sick.
Use of Witness electrifies the alien weirdness conferred by the sight, and may provide a clearer image of the "second mind" present (though whether it's considered parasitic or symbiotic is up to the observer). It might show multiple encounters the Changeling has had in the past with humans... the onlooker might see a Satyr sexually ravage victims and leave them in catatonic states, a Sluagh sucking the breath from a child or a Redcap looming over an artist while they stare glassy-eyed at a blank canvas.
Discern reveals the Changeling's Faerie Mein as if they'd assumed it willingly.
Is there any cantrip that a Changeling can use to detect the Imbued?
The existence of the Imbued is limited to just a few rumours of humans blessed (or cursed) with supernatural powers amongst the Courts… but, assuming they know what to look for, Changelings can detect Imbued with the Soothsay Level One, “Omen,” but only if the Imbued in question has active Conviction (ie: they have their Second Sight active) or have recently used an Edge.
The clues given by Soothsay’s Omen cantrip are ambiguous (eg: the Imbued hears strange voices or experiences lucid hallucinations, they feel an affinity to fire or light or the wind, images of their Edges in use, an empathic feeling of "wrongness" similar to how the Imbued experiences when viewing supernaturals through the Second Sight, etc) but can provide clues about the individual hunter’s goals and, to some extent, the focus of their Creed (eg: “They seek to punish the guilty,” “They seek to end the suffering,” etc)
Changelings can also use the Spirit Link Level One cantrip, “World Sight,” to determine what the Imbued are. Again the Changeling must know what to look for and the hunter must have active Conviction or had recently used an edge at the time.
Each Imbued looks similar (eg: they have a golden halo or something else that hints at the divine), yet different at the same time (eg: an Avenger would appear as a fiery angel of vengeance, a Redeemer would appear as a glowing angel of mercy, etc).
The only exceptions to these rules are the seldom few of the Imbued who become Divine or Corrupt Extremists…
For Corrupt Extremists, whether they have active Conviction or not, use of the Soothsay cantrip suggests a similarly ambiguous set of clues about the nature of the Imbued, but with a more demonic edge (eg: they have fallen from grace, they have become corrupt through their own power, they have become enslaved or are heavily influenced by something otherworldly of incalculable evil, etc), though the nature of it depends on the Changeling’s interpretation of evil.
The Spirit Link accentuates the infernal taint of the Corrupt Extremist (eg: their shadow has a demonic shape to it, they have horns or red scaled skin, etc.)
Divine Extremists, by contrast, possess the same traits of the Imbued when viewed under the Soothsay and Spirit Link cantrips but accentuated to the point they glow in such brilliant radiance many Changelings struggle to even look at them.
What protection does having active Conviction give the Imbued against Changelings?
With active Conviction, Imbued are immune to the effects of the Mists and any cantrip that is directly cast on the Imbued and is designed to affect mortals through supernatural deception, emotional/mind-control or bodily manipulation (Aphrodisia, The Autumn Way Level One and Five, Chicanery, Chronos Level One and Three, Contempt, Delusion Level Three to Five, Discord Level One, Kryos Level One, Legerdemain Level One and Three, Metamorphosis, Oneiromancy, Primal Level Three to Five, Pyretics Level Two, Soothsay Level Two and Five, Sovereign, Spirit Link Level Five, Talecraft Level Three, and Wayfare) will automatically fail.
Active Conviction renders Imbued immune to certain Changeling Birthrights or House Boons (Pooka Confidence, Redcap Brow-Beating, Sidhe Awe and Beauty, Satyr’s Gift of Pan, and House Liam‘s Boon).
Without this protection, the Imbued are just as blind and vulnerable as any other human being.
Can Imbued be Enchanted?
Imbued can be Enchanted, but only when they don't have active Conviction. If they are Enchanted and flick on the Second Sight, the effects of Enchantment will wear off. Active Conviction also renders them immune to Enchantment.
Can Changelings gain Glamour from Imbued?
Imbued can be Mused, Ravaged, etc, just the same as any other mortal, though if they have active Conviction the Changeling cannot draw Glamour from them.
How Banal are the Imbued?
Perhaps to their advantage, the Imbued are apparently no more or less Banal than any other human being. The only exception to this rule are either those Imbued who were already insane after being given the imbuing or those who have endured for so long on the hunt that they have become dangerous or insane Extremists.
Naturally, how individual Imbued and Extremists are affected by the Mists, and to what extent (if any), is determined between two factors: in/active Conviction and the individual handlers.
