We all sometimes get into situations when first signing up for new boards or creating new characters that we have no idea what to make them.
Here is some general advice for everyone...
- Try and create a character that is close to you... don't try and create some outlandish character only to find you can't roleplay as them because you "can't find their voice" for lack of a better expression.
In other words, create a character that is an extension of yourself.
If you're slightly arrogant in real-life, make your character an egomaniac.
If you're a joker in real-life, make your character a comedian.
The possibilities are endless.
- Although sometimes it's difficult to, we can't be protective of our characters... just like in real-life, we will eventually find ourselves in situations that we'd rather not be in.
Try and learn not to be self-conscious about them... because as much as they are an extension of ourselves, it isn't really us that is doing what they do.
Example being that as much as Dirty Harry might have been working to Clint Eastwood's level of acting abilities, it's absolutely not Clint Eastwood as a real-life person.
- Try not to conform to the stereotypes of each of the Clans and Sects...
A Tzimisce Antitribu could show more compassion and humanity than a Toreador Artist could, a Malkavian might be able to speak normally without injecting excessive gibberish but still hear voices... the list is endless!
Put some colour and imagination into your character to make it stand out from the rest... or take it in a completely different direction to what people would expect and maybe you'll get other roleplayers interested in doing threads with you.
