The Imbued use a variety of slang terms, similar to those of other societies. Here's a list of the more common ones:
A
Adversaries – The Enemy.
Afflicted – The Enemy. Also "the Lost", "the Salvageable", "Strays".
Archangel Complex – A mocking term for the mindset of Extremist hunters. References to the glyph in The Word which means “archangel.”
B
Bait – An Imbued who uses themselves as a lure.
Balancer – An Imbued.
Beasts – The irredeemable.
Big Idea – Most Visionaries pursue an ideal, attempting to bring their Big Idea to life. Also "Big Picture" or "Reason".
Bleeding Hearts – The Merciful.
Bruise – Ghouls. Imbued often see them as having livid, dark marks under their skin. Also sometimes "Lick" (diminutive of "lickspittle") or "Renfield".
Bullseye – Hunters who prefer to use sniper weapons.
Bully – A Monster that appears to enjoy causing suffering.
Burden, the – Humanity at large, especially those who would rather profit from corruption rather than strike out against it.
Burnout – A hunter who has seen too much and suffered psychologically.
Bystander – A person who was Imbued, but failed to act. These people sometimes make it onto Hunter-Net or pursue the Hunt without the powers the Imbued have; more often, though, they rationalise or repress the incident. Also called "Pylons", "Wastrels", or "Cannon Fodder", depending on your position on them.
C
Call, the – The Imbuing. Sometimes "the Voice".
Called – To be Touched.
Calling, the – To be Imbued. Also "the Draft", "the Summons".
Challenge, the – The Hunt.
Charge – The object of a Defender's protective instinct. May be an area, a person, or even an ideal.
Charity Case – An Imbued who gives up everything they have to pursue the Hunt.
Choice, the – The Imbuing.
Chosen, the – Hunters. Also "the imbued".
Conscripts – Monsters who had no say in becoming what they are.
Crackhead – A hunter who seeks answers through psychotropic agents.
Crave – A hunter's obsession with a specific target.
Cross to Bear – The individual calling or mission of a Martyr.
D
DADT – "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". An informal code amongst the Merciful not to discuss creatures they feel they can save with more militant hunters.
Dark One – The Enemy, without a specific type. Also "Tumour".
Defenceless, the – Humanity at large; people who don't understand the truth of the world around them. Also "the blind". God45 calls them "cows".
Demo – Hunters who prefer to use explosives.
Dracula – Vampires. Also "Fangs".
Drama Queen – A hunter who makes a great deal out of their sacrifices, possibly searching for attention. Also "Attention Whore".
Dream, the – Normal life. IE: The absence of the Hunt - and the reason for undertaking it.
Drone – A human who is ignorant of the Truth.
Dud – A Bystander.
Dutiful, the – Redeemers and those dedicated to returning the Enemy to the fold. Also "Confessors", "Deprogrammers", "Healers", "the Forgiving".
E
Echo – Members of a personality cult.
Edge – Hunter powers. Also "the stuff", "the juice", "mojo", or "angel trick".
Enemy, the – Monsters revealed by the Sight. Often used by more militant Imbued. Also, "the Prey", "Monsters", and so on.
F
Flicker – Werewolves, so named because of their ability to move faster than the eye can follow, and to seemingly appear out of nowhere.
Frothers – Violent hunters.
G
Game Hunter – Hunters who target one specific type of creature. This is seen as counter-productive, as the Enemy is everywhere.
Gawker – A normal person who sees the abilities of the imbued or the Enemy but does not comprehend them.
Godhead – A hunter who leads a cult of personality or who maintains the Imbuing is the sign of divine favour. Also sometimes applied to Martyrs.
Gone Fishing – A description of Imbued who abandon the Hunt, hoping to find solace away from major population sites.
Good Samaritan – A Bystander who aids the Hunt.
H
Headshrinker – An overly analytical Imbued. Often applied to Judges, but also some Innocents.
Heralds – The mysterious beings who gave the Imbued their powers. Also, "Messengers". What these beings are and why they've chosen the Imbued is not known, but is a favoured topic of discussion, particularly amongst new Imbued.
Hidden, the – The Enemy. Also "The Other Side."
Hole – Diminutive of "arsehole." Someone who is self-centred.
Homebody – Insult used to describe Visionaries who manipulate other hunters instead of pursuing the Hunt themselves.
Hometown Hero – A hunter who has sworn themselves to the defence of a particular place. Often applied to Defenders.
Honcho – Hunters who always try to lead. Often applied to the Zealous and the Visionary.
Hunt, the – The life of the Imbued. Can be extended to cover both the society of the Imbued as a whole. Also "the Mission", "the Cause", "the Truth", and so on.
I
In The Field – Term for bringing the Hunt in line with one's Big Picture.
J
Jones – A Hunter with a cult of personality.
K
Kamikazes – See "Whacko".
L
Lobo – Shapeshifters.
Loner – An Imbued who refuses to co-operate with others. Innocents usually see this as a sign of impending burnout.
Lurker – A hunter who does not post to Hunter-Net and researches the supernatural, but does not confront it directly themselves. Also referred to as a "wannabe" or "bystander". Some Hunter-Net members, notably God45, make a mission of tracking down and "converting" such Hunter-Net members.
M
Merlin – Magi.
Micro-Manager – Although the Visionary were intended to plot the Hunt as a whole, some take things to extremes and try to co-ordinate everything.
Most Dangerous Game (MDG) – The Hunt itself. Often also applied to dangerous creatures capable of staggering combat feats (ie, just about everything).
N
Nightmare – Changelings.
O
Outcast – Hunters tormented by Messenger contact. Also "Loner", "Outsider", or "Schizo".
P
Penitent – A monster who aids humanity.
Plan, the – The Hunt.
Preacher – A hunter who tries to encourage others to follow them with religious messages; also "Falwell" or "Saviour".
Prophet – An Imbued who has turned their Big Idea into a religion.
Pup – A harmless supernatural opponent who fades out if left alone.
Puppet – A human pawn of the supernatural.
Put Wood On – To kill, especially with reference to vampires.
Pyro – Hunters who prefer to use fire.
S
Second Sight – The power of Imbued that reveals monsters attempting to hide what they are. Note that Imbued are not aware of the mental protection afforded by the Sight. Also note that most Imbued do not perceive a difference between observation Edges and the Sight. Sometimes referred to as "the Vision", "the Sight", or "the Angelic Decree".
R
Recluse – A hunter who's gone off the deep end and has isolated themselves and their Charge.
Revelation – The Imbuing.
Rot – Any of the Walking Dead. Many Imbued include Vampires in this category.
Runaways – Bystanders.
S
Sell-out – Hunters who provide their services for a price.
Service, the – The Hunt.
Shark – A creature who takes advantage of an Innocent's optimism and uses it to harm them or others.
Shining One – The Messengers.
Slacker – A Hunter who gives up or forces others to bear their load.
Smoke – To kill.
Soldier – Violent hunters, or those who see the Hunt as a war. Often synonymous with the Zealous- and the Deviant.
Souless, the – Humans who support the darkness, but who are not directly used by it. Can also be applied to Imbued, particularly if one disagrees with their point of view.
Static, the – Refers to the painful and debilitating mental phenomena when in the presence of the Supernatual that Hermits experience. Also refers to the "white noise" caused by the constant contact the Messengers have imposed on them. Also "Clamour" or "the Noise".
Stub – Walking Dead, Zombies
T
Tested, the – Martyrs. Sometimes extended to include the Imbued in general. Also, "the Devoted".
Time, the – Eventually, the Hunt costs everything. Martyrs sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Also "the bottom of the ninth", "the endgame", or "when the fat lady sings."
Touched – To have contact with the Mesengers. Also "the Call".
Tough – A hunter who's self-image and place in the Hunt require them to be unbeatable. Again, often the Zealous, but also Martyrs.
Tunnel Visionary – A Visionary so focussed on their Big Picture they can see nothing else.
V
Visionary – A term used to describe deep thinkers and philosophers amongst the Imbued. It is not a Creed label, however.
Vulnerable, the – Normal people, ignorant of the Truth.
W
Wake-Up – To be imbued.
Warlock – Mages. Sometimes also "Witch".
Watch, the – The Defender's Mission and Calling.
Whacko – A Hunter whose dedication to the Mission is such that they will make any sacrifice in its pursuit.
Wisp – Ghosts and other spirits.
Word, the – Hunter Code.
Writing On The Wall – Hunter Code, The Word, etc.
Y
Yokel – A Hunter who believes in and promulgates folk wisdom, often without testing them first.
